A backpain

If you experience back pain on a regular basis, you can improve your quality of life in 2019 by taking steps to reduce or eliminate back pain. These six suggestions can help you feel better in the coming year.

1. Limit Bed Rest

Laying down for more than two days because of back pain could potentially prolong the problem. If your back gives you trouble, talk to your chiropractor to learn ways that you can safely engage in physical activities. Your chiropractor can teach you stretches that you can do daily, and they can also suggest low-impact forms of exercise that won't exacerbate any existing back issues.

2. Improve Your Posture

Poor posture puts pressure on your back, causing pain and even injury. Over time, if you don't improve your posture, your back pain may get worse.

Improving your posture often takes professional help, so talk to a chiropractor. Your chiropractor can perform adjustments that can help you maintain a healthy posture; they can also suggest exercises that will improve your posture with time.

3. Stop Wearing High Heels

High heel shoes can change your posture and put pressure on your vertebrae. Switching to low-heel dress shoes allows the spine to assume a more natural position, which in turn can reduce your back pain.

4. Change the Way You Sleep

Many people give themselves back pain by sleeping in positions that puts pressure on their spine. The worst sleeping position is on the stomach. Sleeping on the stomach forces the spine into an unnatural curve that can cause pain the following morning.

Some people may find it hard to change the position they take while sleeping because they naturally roll into that position during the night. If you can't prevent yourself from sleeping on your stomach, place a pillow under your hips to reduce pressure on the back. If you're able to control the position you sleep in, sleep on your side.

5. Evaluate Your Work Habits

Many people experience back pain after sitting or standing for long hours where they work. Sometimes back pain is caused by the posture that people assume while they're engaging in normal work activities; other times it's the activities that cause the pain. For example, back pain is very common among people who have to regularly lift heavy objects for their profession.

Have your work place evaluated by an ergonomist (someone who studies workplace efficiency). An ergonomist may recommend replacing your chair, adjusting the height of your computer monitor, or changing the tools you use to do your job. If there is no ergonomist at your work place, talk to your chiropractor.

6. Improve Household Ergonomics

A person’s level of working efficiency is important at home as well as at work. For example, standing for long periods of time while doing the dishes can be hard on the feet, legs, and back. You can relieve your back pain by standing on a mat that provides support.

Assess which activities seem to give you the most back pain. Work with your chiropractor or medical professional to identify solutions that relieve pressure on your back.

See a Chiropractor

One of the best ways to relieve back pain is to see a chiropractor. Chiropractors use many methods to reduce back pain for patients, including:

  • Spinal adjustment. This is the process of adjusting the alignment of the spine to reduce pressure on the vertebrae.

  • Lifestyle advice. Your chiropractor can help you determine the source of your pain and make recommendations to prevent it.

  • Stretches and exercise. Stretches and exercise help keep the body flexible while also providing an opportunity to stretch out tense muscles and reduce pain.
